Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 1, 2026

Patchwork is a pattern-making app for crafters. It was built to be private by design: your patterns, photos, and projects stay on your device and in your own iCloud account. We don't run a server that collects them, and we don't track you.

The short version

1. Who we are

This app, Patchwork ("the App"), is created and operated by Troy Thomas ("we", "us", or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains how the App handles information when you use it. It applies to the App and to this page.

If you have any questions, contact us at support@withpatchwork.com.

2. Information you create in the App

When you use Patchwork, you create content such as patterns, color palettes, project files, and imported charts. This content is stored locally on your device. If you turn on iCloud Sync, this content is also stored in your personal iCloud account so it can sync across your Apple devices.

We do not operate our own servers that receive or store this content, and we cannot read the contents of your iCloud private database. Your use of iCloud is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy and your iCloud settings, which you control in iOS.

3. Photos and the photo library

Features such as Photo to Pattern let you turn an image into a craft pattern. When you choose to use these features, the App requests permission to access photos you select. The image is processed entirely on your device to generate a pattern. We do not upload your photos to us, and we do not retain them outside the project you create. You can change photo permissions at any time in your device's Settings.

4. Purchases

Patchwork offers optional paid upgrades ("Patchwork Pro"). All purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store and in-app purchase system. We do not collect or receive your payment card number, billing address, or similar financial details. Apple may share with us limited, non-identifying information needed to deliver your purchase and confirm your entitlement (for example, that a valid purchase or restore occurred). Apple's handling of your purchase is governed by Apple's terms and privacy policy.

5. Support communications

If you email us for support or feedback, we receive your email address and whatever information you include in your message. We use it only to respond to you and to improve the App. We don't add you to marketing lists.

6. Diagnostics provided by Apple

If you have enabled sharing of analytics and diagnostics with developers in your iOS settings, Apple may provide us with aggregated, non-identifying crash and performance reports through App Store Connect. This data is collected and controlled by Apple, helps us fix bugs and improve stability, and is not used to identify you. You can turn this off in iOS Settings under Privacy & Security, then Analytics & Improvements.

7. What we do not collect

8. How information is used

Any information involved is used only to: run the App's features on your device; sync your content through your iCloud account when you enable it; deliver and restore purchases through Apple; respond to your support requests; and keep the App working and secure.

9. Third-party services

The app relies on the following services provided by Apple, each governed by Apple's own terms and privacy policy:

This website, which is separate from the app, uses Vercel Web Analytics, a privacy-friendly analytics service that measures basic traffic such as page views and referrers. It does not use cookies and does not collect personal information. Visitors are counted with an anonymized daily identifier that cannot be used to track you across days or across other websites, so no cookie banner is needed. Vercel's handling of this data is governed by Vercel's privacy policy. The Patchwork app itself includes no analytics.

Aside from these services, we don't share your content or personal information with any other third parties, except where required to comply with the law (see below).

10. Data retention and deletion

Because your content lives on your device and in your iCloud account, you control it. To remove your content you can delete individual projects in the App, delete the App, or remove its data from iCloud in your device's iCloud settings. Any support emails you've sent us remain in our email records unless you ask us to delete them.

11. Security

Your content is protected by your device's built-in security and by Apple's iCloud protections. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we design the App to minimize the information that ever leaves your device.

12. Children's privacy

Patchwork is a general-audience crafting app and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the App does not collect personal information through an account, it is safe for general use, but a parent or guardian should supervise purchases.

13. Your privacy rights

California (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have rights to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, and to not be discriminated against for exercising those rights. As described above, we do not collect personal information through the App beyond what you voluntarily send us by email, and we do not sell or share your personal information. To make a request, contact us at support@withpatchwork.com.

European Economic Area and United Kingdom (GDPR)

If you are in the EEA or UK, you have rights to access, correct, delete, and restrict processing of your personal data, and to object to processing. Since most of your data stays on your device and in your iCloud account, you can exercise most of these rights directly. For data we hold (such as support emails), contact us at support@withpatchwork.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

14. International users

The App is operated from the United States. If you use it from outside the United States, any limited information you choose to send us (such as a support email) may be processed in the United States.

15. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the "Last updated" date above and post the new version on this page. Significant changes may also be noted in the App.
